FIRST QUANTUM GRAND RESERVE MAGNUM 2011
Loosely inspired by the scale and ambition of First Quantum Minerals, this grand Bordeaux-style blend commands a name befitting its stature. Composed of 71% Cabernet Sauvignon and 29% Merlot, the First Quantum Grand Reserve Magnum is the limited-release successor to the sold-out 2011 750ml vintage.
A wine of exceptional quality, it stands comfortably alongside the world’s finest blends. Aromatically evolved and intriguingly complex, it rewards repeated swirling and nosing. The bouquet is concentrated and intense, revealing layered notes of crème de cassis, violet, leather, cigar box and raspberry.
On the palate it is rich and structured, with an intricately woven texture: savoury pencil-lead and red-meat nuances, a refreshing menthol lift from the Merlot, and firm, gripping tannins that carry the wine to a seemingly endless finish. Produced in Elgin, where altitude imparts vibrant natural acidity, this magnum shows an elegant, coherent profile of refined complexity. The long, harmonious finish echoes the nose, confirming its standing as an exquisite, world-class limited edition.
Bottled in magnum format to enhance ageing and bottle evolution, the First Quantum Grand Reserve 2011 is a standout expression—just 200 magnums were produced, each presented in a keepsake box.
